Special for the Holidays
  • 1.       Holiday Fruit Cake: Yes or No?

Feelings run high when it comes to the dark, sticky, boozy fruitcake some people make for the holidays. The jokes are legion (“The worst gift is a fruitcake. There is only one fruitcake in the entire world, and people keep sending it to each other.” Johnny Carson), but the really great recipes are few. Those of us lucky enough to have a family recipe passed down through the generations swear by the delicious treat. Some bakers start marinating next year’s fruit once they finish baking this year’s cakes! How do YOU feel about fruitcake – can’t stand it or can’t live without it? Bring your favourite recipe – or your favourite way to get rid of unwanted fruitcake!

  • 2.       What was Your Most Memorable Holiday Season?

As we look back, most of us can remember one particular holiday season that stands out. Maybe it was the first holiday in your own home, the first in a new country, the holiday when you did something completely different, or even the holiday when everything went wrong! What holiday season do you remember most and why?

  • 3.       Do You Have a Favourite Holiday Tradition?

Everyone celebrates the holidays in their own way. As kids grow up and start their own families, they make their own traditions. Some are based on ethnic origins, some are based on weather, some are just because. What is your favourite holiday tradition and why?

  • 4.       Have You Ever Celebrated the Holidays with People of Another Culture?

Most cultures have a celebration at this time of year, whether it’s Diwali, Hannukah, Winter Solstice, or

Christmas. Have you ever celebrated someone else’s holiday with them? Or have you invited someone

from another culture to celebrate your holiday with you? What did you learn?
