Welcome to Geocaching if you aren’t involved yet! If you are, then I can’t wait to get our little group started. I think we’re going to have fun!
Here’s what you need to do now, in advance of our September 28th meet up in High Park:
- Go to Geocaching.com and learn all you can about geocaching - there’s a lot to it - different types of caches, travel bugs, souvenirs etc.
- Register for an account.
- Choose a catchy Geocaching nickname (I’m Hideycat by the way)
- Download the Geocaching app, by Groundspeak - there are a few, but this is the best one and it’s recommended on the Geocaching website. They will direct you to the App Store or Google Play
- Play around with the app. See what caches are in your neighbourhood. Drag the map over to High Park and have a look at the caches there.
If you can’t make it when we get together as a group, no worries! This will be an ongoing activity, probably with a winter hiatus because it’s difficult to find caches when there is a lot of snow cover. You will discover that there are geocaches all over the world, so it you’re traveling this winter, you’ll have an opportunity to to do some caching. I’ve discovered caches in Israel, Argentina, Morocco and many other countries. Canada Parks even encourages caching in the parks, however not so in Ontario Provincial Parks.
Contact Catherine Copeland for more information.
Signup sheets will also be available at the September General Meeting.
